Br Abu Sumayyah is a Puerto Rican revert who accepted Islam in 1998. He is a graduate of Mishkah University and has completed his BA in Islamic studies. He has received training in areas such as Islamic aqeedah, Qur’an, fiqh, Islamic history, hadeeth, methodologies of dawah, and many other sciences. He was very active in the Islamic communities in the Northeast from 1999 to 2006. He then moved to Illinois from 2006 – 2012 where he served as the Vice President for Islamic D.O.O.R, the President and main lecturer for the Latino Muslims of Chicago, and he served as the office Manager and religious chairman for the Muslim Association of Greater of Rockford. In 2012, Brother Abu Sumayyah relocated back to NJ where he currently works as an Islamic Studies and Quran teacher for Miftaahul Uloom Academy in Union City, NJ. Brother Abu Sumayyah is was an Assistant Imam at Masjid Al Huda in Jersey City, NJ. In 2014, he began a NJ chapter for IslamInSpanish whose main objective is to disseminate Islamic knowledge in the Spanish language. He is also very active in Dawah. In the summer of 2014 he traveled to Brazil as the leader of the WhyIslam team in order to give dawah during the world cup. Also in the summer of 2015 he traveled with 38 Hispanic Muslim leaders to Egypt for a 30 day intense leadership program held by the World Assembly of Al-Azhar Graduates (WAAG).
